ATTENDANCE

FREQUENTLY ASKED ATTENDANCE QUESTIONS

Is DLA’s whole school attendance good?
At the end of the summer term in 2017, it stood at 96% which is above national averages, but we can always do better!

What time is the bell rung at DLA?
At 8.55am and the gate closes at 9am.

If my child comes to school after 9am, will they be marked late?
Yes, they will be marked late and should therefore come in via the office. The gate will be closed.

If my child is unwell, when should I tell the school?
If your child is unwell please ensure the office is telephoned as soon as possible on the day they are absent and each subsequent day, if off for longer. This should be followed up by a letter on the day back, where possible.

What should I do if my child has a medical appointment?
If for some reason a medical appointment is made during the school day, please bring the letter or appointment card to the office so this can be copied and put into your child’s file. However we do ask that parents try to make medical appointments outside of school hours.

We would like to book a holiday in term time, only for a few days, is this ok?
No, holidays or odd days will not be authorised during term time. This is due to government guidelines and the STEP policy. It is important that children attend school regularly to benefit from the learning opportunities provided. Children who are absent from school due to a holiday in term time will miss out on important learning. Educational experiences in school missed as a result of a family holiday cannot be re-captured later.

Who can I talk to about this?
You can arrange to have a meeting with our Attendance Officer and Head Teacher.

Can I be fined for taking my child out of school during term time?
You can be, please click here to read more.
